JC, I wrote an article to address the many reasons you may have ended up in this unfortunate situation. You can check it out here:

Thanks for sharing your experience JC and I'm sorry you didn't have better success. There are many variables that go into the sale of a home. I can understand your frustration when you feel like you've done everything "right."

You seem to have assumed staging was a waste of money, but if it didn't sell with staging, it's unlikely that it would have sold without it.

Don't throw the "baby out with the bathwater" when you decide to put it back on the market, and please consider the other factors that influence how fast a home sells. Your comments have inspired me to write a post specifically on this, which I hope will help you!

I spent a TON of $$ with a very reputable local staging firm, did all of their recommendations, used their hand-picked realtor, moved out of the house so that it would constantly be show-ready, everything possible. NO SALE!!! If I had it to do over again, I would NOT stage!

I love this article, thanks for posting. I usually have my clients leave the kids rooms and just tidy them up the best they can. Your article now enforces what I have been telling them all along.:)
